| Coke is as low as ¢2.3/ounce in the store today, Pepsi and store brand ¢1.9, so yes, milk is probably a bit expensive if you want more people to drink it. Milk at $3.59/gallon is ¢2.8/ounce. The price of milk paid to the farmer is about $24.5/cwt*, or 59% of the retail price, which indicates a pretty efficient distribution system, even if cheap milk is usually put forth to make consumers buy more expensive products.
Still, I agree, the price should not make much of a difference, people drink milk usually at breakfast, with tea or coffee, maybe with a snack, or for baking if there are still bakers around, so it's not consumed in large quantities like soda is and price matters less.
