I would guess that one major reason is ruggedization of connectors. USB is great for an office environment - fast and easy to connect/disconnect, but those same characteristics aren't good in the field. You need something with a screw or a lock, and it needs to be dust-tight and water-tight, and not prone to issues related to temperature changes, vibration, etc. Plus, let's face it - ag isn't an industry that has traditionally been quick to accept change.
