I seem to recall that either the Republican congress or a Republican presidential candidate proposed selling down the federal property and apply the proceeds to the debt. Of course the left and their lapdog media immediately wrapped themselves in Old Faithful, the Washington monument, and so forth. The low information crowd ate it up and "knew" that federal land was now code for Jellystone Park. Of course the proposal was dropped and here we are.
Emotion beats logic in an election every time it's tried.
