It definitely looks like the Malaysian military radar saw the plane voluntarily turning and changing route, avoiding other land radars in the process, but it's difficult to see the reason why, as you'd expect the plane to make for land at some stage, where it would be impossible to escape radar coverage. Where would it go anyway? Indonesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka? With the complicity of a government who'd want a plane so badly they'd be ready to kill a couple hundreds passengers and crew?

I agree that it seems aberrant that in 2014 international flights can escape tracking of any sort. Even if they were out of radar or radio range, there are still satellites, that's apparently what instrumentation used to keep pinging, but why no location or other data is not mandatory for international flights is just madness. Also why is there no way to detect that the transponder and apparently another piece of communication went offline, and when they do, why is there not some immediate plan of action to track and contact the plane.

The plane also changed course between Malaysia and Vietnam, you'd expect both countries to be able to track planes by radar at this distance, not just the Malaysian military radar. If the civilian radars of both countries were just outside their limits, then it's someone very informed of radar capacities and black no-man-land between the 2 countries that decided to change course right midway. It seems likely that one of the 2 pilots was either involved or instructed to change course. It's been a whole week already, with many questions leading to more questions, and an accumulation of system or design failures, but few answers so far, not even a single piece of debris. Hopefully (and unfortunately) the latter might change now that the search area has been expanded to include the latest military radar position.
