Subject: RE: John Deere VRT questions

I have an 04 7920 that is used for planting, cultivating, and pulling loads. The main difference in the selector switch is the RPM you want to hold. PTO with keep that rpm and slow the ground speen to maintain it. It basically loads the engine to keep it at pto speed or your max ground speed. #3 is basically road operation or minimum engine RPM. The other position sets the minimum tractor rpm. I use this for planting and cultivating. With our vacuum planter I set the minimum at 1700 to keep oil flow up. The only problem I have had is the front end speed sensor go out twice(this will cause a speed surge on occasion of up to 2 mph for a second or two. I am very happy with mine. It dynoed at 220 brand new. It was the strongest one my dealership got out of 13. Most are 200-210 at rated speed.
