We've had black snakes in our 200 yr old stone house as long as I've lived here. We had a 4 ft black snake laying on the chair rail in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The best bet, at least for us, is to keep everything as tight as possible, keep some cats around to control the mice population, and learn to live with them!!
