Western Illinois | Thanks. Since she is the first cow to calve in this pasture I have to believe are both nursing from her and she is accepting of them.
Summer pasture is good quality grass with a little clover mixed in with it. Also plan to frost seed the pasture again here this week so hopefully with some good weather the pasture will be even better quality next year. On normal years 75% of the pasture needs to be mowed and wont get below 3-4 inches.
We do not currently creep feed the calves.
I agree that there will normally be extra work with twins but I would prefer 2 smaller calves than one big one at selling time. Ill have to keep a close eye on them to make sure one doesnt start to go downhill on nutrition.
Sure wish this cold weather they are calling for during the next week would pass on by. | |
