For some reason, I don't remember sheep being so much work even when things are going good. No serious problems, just the usually occasional pull and making sure lambs drink or you have to help them. The cold weather isn't helping, but at least we have warm barns. Here are the latest stats: 204 live lambs out of 97 ewes, for a 210% average. Have about 20 bottle lambs on the pails. Went to church on Sunday morning, checked not long before we left and got home as quick as possible after picking up some groceries, so we weren't even gone 2 hours. In that time 4 ewes had 11 lambs. Eight of them were on the proverbial lamb pile, and 2 were wondering around the barn unclaimed. Spent an hour trying to see who wanted who. Three wound up as bottle lambs. Just finished supper, time to check again. Keep warm everyone. I'll post pics when I get a chance. First lamb was born Feb 5. |
