| If the eye is stabil as is, she is sound otherwise, and a good mama, I would probably keep her another 3-4 yrs as long as she keeps coming up with a good calf on time.
In this case I don't believe the eye problem is hereditary so if her daughters make the grade, you can keep them for replacements. I would not keep a replacement from a cancer eye cow.
You and her have likely already come to terms dealing with her obscured vision on that side. Just don't surprise her in close quarters and you'll probably get along fine. Speak and let her know you are around.
When you do haul her down the road, she will take a hit on salvage value regardless of now or later because of the eye. If you should run short of feed/cash and need to sell something, the eye does put her higher on the cull list than another cow of same age/condition without the eye problem. | |
