Subject: RE: Niche market hogs

Calhoun County Michigan
I am in mi so don't know about shipping to iowa but wouldn't rule it out. We raise red wattles now and sell about 60 head of feeder pigs a year. Could maybe double that without much trouble. I had one berk sow once. She went crazy at farrowing time and I lost all of the pigs. She got shipped. The stuff I heard about niman was that you never made your bonus. It was second hand so I am not sure but it seemed there was always some reason you didn't make it. Tell me more about Berkshire thing though. We bought a farm two years ago just in time for the drought and it really cut into our cash so I am trying to find a way not to go back to the job in town. Need to add about 20000 net a year here. Thanks for the input.
