I believe there is an aftermarket kit available to change those engines over to a more modern injector pump, I forget who makes it but it might be Worthington Ag Parts or Abeline Machine. I think somebody over on the Red Power site had made the change to the new pump and was very happy with it, seems like it was $1,500 or less for the brand new pump with the adaptor and new injector lines.

Also I'm not sure how your DT-358 is set up but on our 826 with the D-358 you need to pull the shut off cable out 2/3rds of the way before starting, that will set the pump to full fuel which most pumps do automaticly until they recieve oil pressure from the engine.
