Guts, I have had experience with that Bosch rotary on a D268, which is, I believe, a 4-cyl. version of the 358, & the news is not good. That pump is obsolete & nearly impossible to get parts for. The local pump shop finally got a rebuilt from someplace in Iowa, but it never ran right. All the fuel delivery parameters in that pump are basically built into the head assembly, high idle, max. fuel, etc...if the head & rotor are worn, it can cause hard starting like you describe. After 3 attempts to fix it, we finally got a whole new pump from Komatsu-this was on a IH 510 loader, Komatsu-Dresser now handles these, but the price was hellish-like $1500...it's a totally different pump model-VR I think-it's been a couple years. I questioned whether it was worth dumping that much money in the old loader, but the owners wanted to do it-then the head gasket blew, but that's a whole 'nother story...
Hope this info helps, good luck...Ron in CO...
