South central Minnesota | Total meat consumption per capita in the US has actually increased over the last 70 years but is starting to decline. Beef has been on the decline, again per capita consumption over the last 30 years. Pork has been pretty level but has declined some. Poultry has increase dramatically with seafood increasing also. Prices are part of the decline but health concerns have probably impacted beef consumption more. I agree that junk food, processed food and fast food are part of the cause along with inactivity are the biggest causes of obesity. Steakhouses are disappearing, BBQ joints are taking their place. oh to add wings are the driving force of the increase in poultry, that and strips.
Hey Gottie, your numbers should be about total meat consumption , beef per capita has fallen to around 50-52 lbs.
