I assume you have floor vents for the warm air to cime up. That works okay when you have lots of air leaks but it sounds like those got fixed. Yoou need to gert more air movement. Fan to push cold air out of your bedroom and a fan in the stairs to push the cold air down the stairs is the qiuckest thing to make it more livable.

I don't think my kids actually believe me when I talk of waking up with the quilt frozen to the wall. Would wait for Dad to get the coal stove going and run down to dress standing by the stove.
