Well, I'm not about to soil sample my yard, and I have another barrel, so I think next spring I'm going to pick a 10ftx10ft spot, apply 5 lbs, and observe any changes in the grass. Pending results, I'll either spread it on the yard, or dump it elsewhere.
Does ash (fireplace ash) have any fertilizer value?
