Coldwater, Michigan
The term "pot ash" comes literally from burning wood to get the ash. Many of the Eastern US forests were cleared to burn the wood so we could export the "Pot Ash" to England for fertilizer. Wood has a lot of Potassium as well as some other nutrients. It does make a decent liming material as well.
