Alberta | I certainly don't have a horse in this race, but I find it very interesting just the same. Grew up on a beet farm in Alberta where growers still contract to a sugar company. A sugar coop is completely foreign to me.
I was wondering though, why does this talk always center around American Crystal? Are the joint ventures not as common in Minn-Dak and SMBSC? Do they have different rules regarding who can own shares?
I assume that the other coops around Michigan, Idaho, Nebraska etc. are young enough that most of the farmers who bought the original shares are still actually farming. So I would guess that the joint venture may not be required. But these other 2 are just as old as Crystal I believe.
Just curious, thanks in advance for any replies. | |
