north central iowa
Quite a few farmers have "kicked the can down the road" in terms of tax liability. Deferring grain checks until after the first of the year is common. While we will experience considerable "Margin compression" in the next few years, a producer might be looking at a huge tax liability for the 2013 tax year. It might make sense to buy now at an auction before the end of the year and acquire what you might need for machinery for the next two or three years. Or go see "bike across Iowa" if you are close to Charles City. He can help you out with your tax liability. I've bought Brent wagons from them, and they have hardly even depreciated in value. It's amazing, although I would think that might come to an end someday.
