What is the reason for the 25% Argon in shielding gas? I bought a couple tanks of it when I first bought my MIG, but recently switched to straight CO2 at half the cost and can tell no difference whatsoever. They're putting it in there for a reason, I just can't tell what it is.
Straight CO2 is way cheaper ,, but what a mess. It splatters like crazy and some times ruins consumables. You get a lot more C02 in the tank because it liquefies at 800 PSI
I still use straight CO2 some times but mainly on larger jobs with thick steel like repairing a front end loader bucket.
If I am building a hydraulic tank or something thin like 14 GA I use 75% 25% being 75% argon. I also have a Tri Mix for welding mild steel to stainless steel or straight stanless steel welding. |
