north central iowa
I looked at some corn yesterday and was very surprised how good it looked. It is late however, and will need a late frost. The heat that is here now will help with maturity but raise heck with the lighter ground. I have no idea what final yields will be or if the USDA numbers are off a billion, but it looks better than I thought possible after the spring we had. We did catch some rain over the course of the summer that others missed however, so it may not be decent even 5 miles either direction. Where the corn got planted around here, it looks pretty good. I was sure I would be collecting insurance on every farm, but I am not so sure anymore.

I will say that the USDA is way wrong on this bean crop. It is an unmitigated disaster IMHO. You can't plant half the crop in the mud in mid June or later and expect anything else. Waterhemp looks good though.
