In my experience the FWD tractors do steer better that 2wd. FWD offers positive movement of tractor nose and additional ballast. I have also steered 2wd tractors with great success.

If you have a look at www.gpsfarm.com they likely have a kit that will adapt onto your current tractor model. I have seen this hydraulic installation on a 1967 JD4020. I know it sounds crazy but it steers good!
