Well to be fair, none are necessary for good health, it's more a cultural and society requirement.
Doesn't mean I'd like to live without dairy (cheese!) or some meat. But we all would be a lot more healthier with a little more whole grain, pulse, veggies and fruits and a little less burgers or steaks and junk food in our diet.
