NE CO | No question about it, $5 corn, $10 wheat and $13 beans disrupt just about everyone's plans. Throw in expensive fertilizer, glyphosate and of course skyrocketing rent and land prices and we have what is called in the business world, a paradigm shift. As farmers and stockmen, we need to keep a close eye on the bottom lime and be nimble and quick to adjust to the new economic realities. Of course the real problem is we can't see into the future. Will prices stay high for commodities, will the world economic engine keep chugging along or sink into recession? There are a lot of uncertainties facing all of us and good management skill will be as important as ever. Almost all of us can adjust to slow change, but rapid change will test all of us. | |
