"No burn down needed "here" Give it a couple years, Dandelions, some type of prickly lettuce, and yes the dreaded "marestail". Was a problem this year, it was our 4th year on strips. Where conventional tillage was done in the last couple years, these weeds are not present. For Dandelions, get your sprayer ready after harvest, seems those buggers don't want to die. We are exiting strips, had a bad experience with corn stubble this spring. I like strips and think its a good practice. Just need to go to one system, doesn't pay to have two strippers on the yard, plus conventional tillage equipment. Tried 40 acres of navies on some very well made spring strips (worked awesome on light soil) this spring, end rows were conventional tilled. Soybeans seem to work fine in strips, but we will never plant navy's on them again. Navy's just have no vigor. Our conventional tillage for cornstalks consists of one pass with a wishek disk in fall, and one pass with feild cult, with rolling baskets in spring. Best wishes. Brian |
