Little River, TX | In the 1950's our colleges had a good number of Korean War Vets going to college. In the College that I attended the Vets were the only ones with any money. They mostly had a car and every month they had some money for a few beers.
At that time Texas was big on Local Option for drinking. On the Hays county line would be a Deputy Sheriff to arrest the drunks returning to the school.
Now one bright young student (me), with little or no money, would ride out to Be Back Inn, just over the county line. my reward was a hamburger and a couple of soft drinks.
After the first time being pulled over, I would smile and wave to the Deputy as I drove my friends back to school. He would smile and wave back. Life was good.
