If your son is able to do homework easily now when he wants to what will it be like if he repeats the same stuff next year? Will he be bored and easily distracted? Our oldest son has a May birthday so he was the youngest in his class and got along fine--junior in college always on deans list. Our younger son has a July birthday so is younger yet for his class, he has struggled some, but I don't believe a year would have made much difference. Sometimes he has a hard time staying focused, but that really hasn't changed much over the years (in eighth grade now). I am a former teacher, but I would go with my gut as a parent more than what a teacher says.
