Subject: Fuel power

Tests have been made in Germany and Belgium on Fuel energy:
Depending on what kind of vegetable oil is added to mineral diesel, and how pure this oil was, the resulting fuel when having rape oil additive has more energy (e.g. the engine has more HP and burns less) AND is cleaner (e.g. less carbon monoxide, less soot, better running engines).
An engine that has black clouds coming out of the exhausts is considered badly tuned here.
By the way, what is your cheapest price for AG Fuel? in France, it is around 0.75 €/L which would give something like 3.5 US$/gal., in Germany price is higher, that's a reason why more and more people go to vegetable oil (rape/canola, sunflower) and some field experience has been collected there.
With self produced vegetable fuel, quality issues are essential: quality and hygrometry of the raw crop, quality of extraction, time of sedimentation, quality of filtering..... Best results have been reached with homogenous ripened dry crop (no green seeds, low hygrometry) slow extraction in cool temp conditions (the press should not heat up) a week sedimentation before filtering to have as low wax % as possible.
When running on 100% veg. Oil, fuel has to be pre-heated, during summer with temps over 30°Centigrade (Celsius) , 50% mix is OK.
Best results have been obtained with either inline injection pumps or BOSCH linear injection pumps.
All internet reports I read said that a good filtration (as said in another post, be prepared to change your fuel filters quite often in the beginning .... and probably thereafter too) and a clean and high quality fuel are essential. All insisted on heating the pure vegoil to near 80°Centigrade to achieve optimum fluidity.
