Wallis, TX

Sgroff,

Most of our land doesn't have irrigation.  In '11 it rained the first rain on the 23rd of December, didn't quit until March.  We start planting in mid Feb.  This year we got enough rain in mid December that my ryegrass was coming up on Christmas Day.  Now that patch has huge cracks in the ground.  Not much you can do with a cover crop in these conditions.

My grain sorghum that was left for a second crop sucked the ground down I did't get a good stand this year's spring crop.

Where the plane missed any winter grass I don't have a good stand.

The only place I have a good stand is where we worked the ground last fall, (worked dry I might add,) put up in beds, rolled to crush any remaining clods and kept it clean with Valor and RU.  That all planted like a garden.

You're welcome to come up to my neck of the woods and I'll gladly show you around and what we are dealing with.  I'm 400 miles north of your or 50 miles west of Houston.

Call me if you want the grand tour. 979-571-7097 Tim
