What combine? On the 23s the spreader cones sit lower. The earlier models had the rubber beaters, later ones used the curved metal bats which are much more aggressive. We are running a 30' on our 2388 & with the curved bats set in the middle position it will throw straw & chaff into the standing soybeans. There is an aftermarket company (maybe Mae-Wes) that makes an attachment that lowers the cones on the 21 & earlier models of IH but can only think of one combine in the area that has them & never really paid attention as to how well they work. Might check with your CIH service manager to see if the new style cones can be retrofitted to the earlier AFs.

Ed, another thing that seems to help is to install the longer rubber drop curtains around the sides. These phelp keep the straw & chaff in a pattern to be flung out towards the rear instead of into the tires & forward.
