Subject: RE: v8 farm tractors

S.C. Wisconsin
Do to a V8's design they generally are wider bore shorter stroke engines than an in-line 6. The V8's are great acceleration engines but don't seem to be an engine for lugging like in a farm tractor or construction equipment. It seemed that the V8's worked good stationery engine applications where there are constant loads. That seems to be the same for the V12's and V16's. There seems to be some good V8 pickup engines out there but again their loads are different than a farm tractor, construction equipment, and over the road trucks. It's tough to beat an inline 6 for pulls that tax and engine over their limits. For a while we have a 1150 Massey along with our 1130 Massey. When we put them on a tough pulling forage blower the 6 cylinder 1130 would do much better as it could hold it's rpms better when a big bunch of silage went into the blower. The V8's were nice to listen to.
