There is a whole lot of Confusion going on here.

What we need is a series of references to California soil and tissue analysis results to make the confusion complete.

Even if we all were talking the same P, K, Mg, Ca, & S, there will be different results. P for a calcareous soils really needs to use the Olsen Chemistry for reasonable accuracy. While in an acid soil the old Morgan Chemistry is adequate.

That will not solve the disparity in results. Morgan, Bray, nor Mehlich translate well between each other let alone with Olsen chemistry. Not even come close. Irregardlessly a top third alfalfa sample of 0.33% P is accurate in Rhode Island, Indiana, Idaho, and Oregon will work just fine. Then you can look at the soil test results form all the sites and make a judgement on what the different soil test are tilling us.

I do not expect for this controversy to be cleared up, as there is not enough money in the bank to pay to do a complete study. Then have people in India and England verify the results.

Consider low CEC soils, and High CEC soils. Then with the High CEC Soils there is a page of different clay types to consider.

It is all a Puzzlement.

Possibly the measuring the sugar in the plant fluids is a wave of the future.
