Central Florida | The pH is important when your soils are highly weathered, like clays. Clay soils will have a higher Aluminum content which starts becoming toxic to rhizobia when the pH drops below 6.5. When the pH drops below 6, it becomes a significant impact on rhizobia populations. If your soils are higher in organic matter, the pH has less impact on the rhizobia populations. The attached chart illustrates the effect pH has on the other nutrients.
