Corn has a much bigger more massive root system then beans. Corn also has a root system that can go much deeper in the soil. I don't have any concrete numbers but I would bet corn might have just as much plant material below the ground as above if you were able to weigh the two. Thus corn's roots system plus all the above ground residue left after harvest is something soybeans even in the best conditions will never have.
