Northeast ND | I agree, I would never try to direct cut Windbreakers. They are not upright at all. Sinaloas may work, but most of mine fell over last year. Luckily I was not planning to direct harvest them anyway.
Variety selection, stand establishment, rolling, weed control, and combine setup are all crucial to success with direct harvest. My neighbors and I have a saying, you have to "Commit to Cut". That is, for the best success, you need to decide before planting which fields you are going to direct harvest, and which ones you will cut, and manage them accordingly. | |
