| Those tests would work. Probably they get by because we tend to apply more N than the minimum needed, though my last corn year, my late season stalk test showed I had been perhaps a bit too stingy, but I still did 173.2 bushels (dry) on 111 pounds of N. That year the N actually weighed 11.4 pounds per gallon like 32% should. With my portable tank and their scale I had a measure of density.
The year the seller claimed 10.4 pounds was the right weight, it wasn't as clear as 32% often is and was harder to handle through hoses. It had dark brown streaks as if it was more like some 28%. That seller was bought out not long after that.
