Is anyone in that area growing canola? Or is canola restricted to northern OK?

Good soil stubble cover will help conserve moisture....so let the wheat get some tonnage but not too much where termination would be problematic....moisture evaporation and soil depth will be your biggest limiting factors in a normal summer.

You will probably want a group V maturity bean in that area....talk to the neighbors and see what maturity they use. East of you ES 5519RR has proven a good dryland variety in yield trials. http://eagleseed.com/cropbeans.html

For 30-60 bu yield at this latitude on irrigated ground, the standard fertility rec is 60 units of P205 and 120 units of K20 preplant. I would add 100 lb of AMS per ac as well and use MAP if possible for the P source......either K source (muruate or sulfate) is fine. Depending on your soil test, you may not need that much P and K....your area typically sees less leaching than we do and generally higher soil fertility. Beans here use a lot of K and manure does a great job as well!

Is your subsoil limestone, caliche or gypsum? If you've got gypsum underneath then sulfate may not be an issue.

Keep me posted.....hope it works out for you. Always interested in dryland beans in this area as production has generally declined, excepting irrigated ground.
