east central ND | Do lots of research. There are different grades of bamboo, and some are a lot softer than others. I was at Lowes' and bought cheaper bamboo flooring (5/8" thick, solid, real tounge and grove). I put it on the ceiling of the 3 season porch / sunroom, 12' x 30'. Nailed through the tounge with a finish nailler, cannot see any fastners. Looks great. To me, the surface on the cheaper stuff I bought is softer than oak. A couple of the pieces must have come off of a different machine line, they were about 1/64 narrower than the rest. Not a big deal on a ceiling, but would not want that small crack on the floor. Then you have to look at how thick the finish is. Might be hard to find with most brands - the scratch test as mentioned above. It is supposed to be a lot more dimentionaly stable (shrink and swell) than oak, ask me in a couple of years. I think it is like everything else - you get the quality you pay for.
