Just wondering if anybody has been using wood ashes, which seem to be high in calcium, which may be a good complement for milk cows, in a very low ratio of feed.

They were investigating it in South Africa for goats, and the composition depends of course a lot on the plants used. Horsetail for instance is so full of silicon that bunches of it were used to polish precious metals in the old times. That wouldn't help cows much...
