Stratton, Ontario, Canada
I agree with Roy. Wouldn't start the truck for $2.50. Most guys I know go $60 an hour. I found that to be a little steep, so I went out and bought my own trailer. This past year was $3.50 a loaded mile with a 10 mile minimum. But if diesel is going to stay over $4.00, I will be going to $4.00 a loaded mile in the new year.

Basically, the easiest way to make sure you make money and are fair, charge the going rate of diesel as a per loaded mile. So diesel at $4.11/gallon means a charge of $4.11 per loaded mile.

Depending on the roads, a 50 mile one-way haul can take a lot of time out of a day. You have to get paid for it.
