Western Iowa
I was right with you a couple years ago, my wife wanted a milk cow and I definatly did not.

I came around, but it is her deal, just my feed! I think she went a little overboard on the milking machine and setup, but whatever......

Her cow is a jersey, and some how we have 3 heifers as well that are either bred or getting bred as we speak. She is supposed to sell them but she tells me she is keeping one, so we will see........

My wife let her cow have a calf, then we bought another calf to keep on the cow as well. My wife would pull the calves in the evening if we needed milk, then milk the cow in the morning. Would get a pretty steady 2 1/2-3 gallons a milking.

I have to admit, it worked real good until the cow got a twisted gut recently. The cow recoverd pretty well, wife put one calf back on her and she has milked her a couple times now, but only getting like 1-1 1/2 gallons...

I was real sceptical of this whole idea, but it has worked out fine.

My wife is on that family cow board that someone else mentioned about every day
