get a small drill bit long enough to reach the end of all the grease passages, remove the zerks and drill out the grease that has turned to dirt. Only thing it won't go around corners, so a pin that's drilled down the middle and then has an intersecting passage drilled in the center of the bushing may have to be removed to clean out past the corner where the hard grease will be.
Sometimes you will find that a bushing has turned where a grease channel was alingned with a hole in the bushing. Depending on the bushing material, you may be able to drill through into the pin (see different material coming out as you drill) and restore grease flow.
When you pump up the grease gun with the new tip on a fitting and it won't go, loosen one of the joints in the grease line or the tip and let the pressure off instead of snatching the tip off the fitting or wiggling it back and forth. This will help keep the new tip working correctly a lot longer. | |
