NE WI | Never assume anything with an auction tractor!
Get a can of Permatex High Tack and paint the head and block with it where the gasket makes contact. We did this on our Case 1690 the last time we had the head off for valve work and it has never leaked again. This tractor was notorious for head leaks though with the 2 piece head.
Also invest in a torque wrench when torquing the head down. I would have the head checked and make sure it is flat since you're going to have it off anyway.
