How tight is the budget?
Could you fix the 4240 and buy a 4640/4840?
Keeping and repairing 4240 will help improve resale at a later date over its current condition. If its fixed right and you run it a while you can justify the cost. This also removes the 540 PTO needs in the other tractor. Opening a window to far cheaper power like a 4840
Is the operation short HP or just flat out short tractors. Each require different needs and budgets.
The 4440 market is hot and I think you will pay a premium to get one under 5 or 6000 hours.
