As you stated the easiest way you are going to be able to increase yield is to plant sooner, I would wager that would make up most of the difference between you and your neighbors. Also look into treated seed. If the field is relativley smooth and that drill can handle planting it, no-till should work fine. As for fertilizer rec's we'd need to see some soil tests to have something to work off of.
