| My brothers were both in Vietnam at the same time; neither one wanted to ask for an exemption. And both were injured, although they recovered. However, when the older of the two, a Marine lieutenant, was injured, I was at home with my father, on Father's Day 1969. The door bell rang and I answered, and a Marine officer in khakis was there. When he saw me he spread his hands and said, "It's not the worst; its not the worst." And he told us that my brother had been injured in a rocket attack making sure his men took cover. But I will always remember that for too many families, then and now, the news was the worst. | |
