| I too had a cousin that went. He didn't come back. I didn't know him tho, as he was much older than i was.
My brother went. Was a helicopter mechanic but my sister swears he saw air time. Fortunately, he came back. It wasn't until our oldest son was in 8th grade and his class had to write essays on the Vietnam war and our son's essay was one of those chosen to be read at the Veterans Day assembly, that I learned more. Up until that time I had never heard my brother talk about his time over there. The next time he came home, he brought pictures and shared some stories with us. Some good, some bad. Like a pix of one of the barracks where he often played poker with buddies and a mortar shell went thru it and killed a bunch of buddies. He wasn't there that day.
I, too, have been at the memorial. very sobering experience. | |
