You cab do a "self-referral". You call up there, they have you write up a single page why you need more help than you can get locally, a physician reads it and you'll get an answer right away. Self-referral is also a lower rate. I questioned the rate, Dr. looked on his screen and said he didn't do billing, but I was getting "self-referral" rate, which is cheaper than if a your Dr refers you. (to me that part is criminal, but I found out they all grease each other's palms in all of medicine--at least self referral eliminates it).
A few Decembers ago my deal came to a head, local Dr. said the nearest appt. he could get me w a specialist in Des Moines was in March. I wrote the letter to Mayo, got a call back from a receptionist 2 days later saying a Dr. had just read my letter and could I come up next week? Told me to plan on 3 or 4 days. I went up, saw more specialists in 3 days than I could see in Des Moines in a year (when you add the wait in between each one) and by the third day Mayo had my case diagnosed and a remedy worked out for January. So 2 months before I could even GET IN TO SEE a specialist in Des Moines, I was getting better. (and in my case the guy I would have waited until March to see was not exactly the right guy, so I would have had to wait again. I am not sure I could have stood it that long.....
Once one Dr sees you, he decides who you should see next, you go to that Dept, talk to the receptionist, and they squeeze you in. Then if that Dr wants you to see yet another Dr as they continue to diagnose your problem, you go there, they squeeze you in, and so it goes for a few days until they figure it all out and develop a plan of attack.
I would go no where else. | |
