Keith, my great granddad was also in the civil war, on his head stone it has the company he was in, I googled Civil War, and alot of web sites came up.  I put all of the info I had about him and in less than a hour I had all of the info about him, all of the battles he was in, all of the states he was in and when he was mustered out.  It also showed how many in his company died and what from.   Hope this helps, did this over 5 yrs ago so things might be different now.  Good luck.
