Downtown Shell Knob MO Come Visit!
They eat the bales, thats not the problem. Poor cows have poor ways. It the trying to make them gain weight and milk on junk that seems to be the hard part. Weve Considered molasses and syrups but with them eatting over 70% of the bale , corn or distillers is cheaper. Im worried molasses will still only make them eat 80% unless it is mixed very well. Our cows seem to hate a tmr ration. they love when feedstuff is dense. A good tight flake of hay or bale in a manger/feeder tends to get eatten better than loose wet stuff. Maybe thats just a here thing.

it kinda goes back to "If you want a cow to eat a bale of weedy junky hay, just put it in the barn and knock a board off the side of the barn and she will stick her head in and eat the whole thing.
A little rain sure would be the problem solver.
