West Central Iowa | No matter what you end up deciding, creep feeding the 30 days prior to weaning ALWAYS pays as it minimizes the stress of weaning and helps get them accustomed to their development ration. If you are going to creep feed for additional periods, run the numbers with your own costs and rations. I'm sure they will weigh more if creeped for longer periods, but you have to make sure the cost/lb of gain is worth it. People that creep fed specifically due to the drought were also looking to manage the situation of limited grass. In that case the weight gain, though important, was secondary to managing pasture resources and feedstuffs for the herd as a whole. | |
